Women don’t have jobs and sell their babies for profit. In literature, geography “is typically about humans inhabiting spaces” (Foster 166) and living up to their customs. For some people, selling humans as food “would likewise bring great custom to taverns” (Swift 8) and knowledge in what is good food. However, some people fear the developing of their country becoming one of the darkest region making them want to leave their home or have to learn to love their country, or how Swift refers to it “kingdom.”
In A Modest Proposal the word “kingdom” is used as a symbol trying to represent something great. When people hear the word kingdom they think of a great and big place where it’s full of riches and goods. How can a horrifying place be known as a kingdom? The problem with finding symbols is that “people expect them to mean something” (Foster 97). Symbols don’t have to be objects or images. Symbols can also be events and actions. For example the selling of children known as the “quickest proficiency in the art” (Swift 3) can be a symbol of how us, humans, are the only monsters we should
