The short story 'A Message to Garcia' takes place in a time where everything moved slowly when it came to long distance communication across a battlefield and when no mail or telegraph message would suffice, the use of a messenger was it. This story tells the tale of a man who “carry’s a message to garcia”. The mission was just that, carry a message to Garcia. The President at the time needed help and was trying to contact the leader of the Insurgents who was General Garcia. He made several attempts and could not reach him through any mail or even any telegraphs. Not just for a military mission or assignment, this can apply to any job in any line of work as well as life in general. The fact that he or she will always be the “go to guy” as well as completely dependable would show any boss or leader that there subordinate is up for the challenge and willing to give his or her all to learn and complete what was asked of them. Displaying this type of behavior and always striving to learn as well as get better will be the determining factor in a person’s success at what they do. That attitude will not go unnoticed excelling at everything coming your way. So carrying the message to Garcia is more than just a story of a man who displays loyalty, a willingness to act without perfect guidance, fortitude and dedication to his mission while maintaining the integrity to keep going; this conveys the message that should be read by all men and women to inspire them to want to be and to have self-motivation, integrity and the courage to take on the unknown. This should make you want to achieve that one goal or accomplish that one extra thing without expecting someone to always be there to help and give you all the
