One of the character traits that helped David survive the deadly threat was intelligent. David showed many times throughout the text how he was intelligent. The first place is on page 28 in the last paragraph before the A. It stated that when David found the playing card with a yellow beard like Grotan’s, he decided that the 3 men who had died were not the killer and kept all of that information to himself. This was very intelligent because if he confronted Grotan than he might have gone after him and David might have died. Also, on page 29 is talks about how Grotan got the ax and was trying to chop down the door and kill David so at the right moment David opened the door and Grotan fell flat on the floor and David removed …show more content…
A few places in the text showed how David was courageous. One example is on page 27, after they buried Diker and Grotan was telling David that they were safe now because Diker was the “murderer” and he said “He’s Shonts, I say. Ye know that for certain, don’t ye?” and then David replied with “Yes, sir,” but he didn’t know it at all. This was courageous because rather than say that he didn’t know that and tell Grotan that he thinks that he was Shonts and all that he just kept it to himself and he could have died if he told Grotan what he thought. He showed courage by not telling Grotan what he thought and being able to handle himself once he found out it was Grotan. Another place in the text is on page 28, when Grotan was making a noose and David sat upright in his bed and screamed like he had a bad dream. He was courageous because it says after that, that Grotan half believed David and that was courageous because it stopped Grotan from making the noose. That was how David was courageous throughout the
