A Liberal Approach to the Use of Drones The advent of the 21st century has brought the proliferation of drone use around the world. In today’s world, drones, officially known as unmanned aerial vehicles, are even starting to be used by Amazon to deliver our packages. Beginning in 2002, several countries around the world initiated the use of drones as a military weapon. These drones, once armed with missiles and other explosives are called unmanned combat aerial vehicles and have been used on counter terrorism operations around the world. The United States took a direct approach by sending in special forces to fight and protect those being massacred (Western and Goldstein). Today, the United States faces a similar situation with the genocide of Christians, Yazidis, and Shiite Muslims. Our government wants to both intervene and protect those being affected by ISIS and other organizations and also has an interest in destroying these organizations because of the threat they pose to the United States. However, the actions of the United States are constrained by the interests of its citizens. The American people would be reluctant to support a Serbian type intervention against terrorists. They would like to see action taken against these groups, but without a prolonged conflict involving American troops (Lienesch).
