In the title story, “A Good Man is Hard to Find”, written by Flannery O’Connor, the theme of morality is displayed in the form of a puzzle. In blatant terms, the story is about a family who gets murdered by a prison escapee, but the meaning of this story and the questions that readers can ask go farther than expected, which causes readers to continue thinking about the story even after they have read it.

The foreshadowing present when the grandma tells her son Bailey “Here this fellow that calls himself The Misfit is aloose from the Federal Pen and headed toward Florida… I wouldn't take my children in any direction with a criminal like that aloose in it.” is not enough for readers to gain a drop of understanding of the events to come. As the road-trip progressed, the grandmother convinced the family to stop at a plantation home she recalled had hidden silver. Bailey, the grandmother's son, reluctantly began to drive to the plantation and in no time the family found themselves deserted on the side of the road after their vehicle rolled over. But before the vehicle turned over, the grandma realized the plantation was in Tennessee and not the state they were passing through: Georgia. Eventually, a hearse looking car appears and halts to render aid to the stranded family. Little did the grandma and the family know that these good samaritans had ominous intentions, or that “the Misfit” mentioned earlier in the story by the grandma was in their presence and with company.
