A Former Significant Relationship

Decent Essays
A former significant relationship that I was in I had plenty of problems with but I just didn't want to give up on it. I tried many strategies to try helping improve it, some things work and some things didn't. One strategy that didn't work is the "let's talk about the problem" strategy because my partner at the time didn't ever want to admit to his wrongdoing when I did in order for us to discuss it to see what we can do to prevent it from happening again so the issue was never going to get solved but the one strategy that did work was the "walk away" strategy because once you get tired of fighting in the ring along, you'll get worn out and you'll start to see that the love isn't equivalent how it should

Seeking a relationship is one of the most human things that a person could ever do. Whether it is for platonic reasons or sexual, the drive to be associated with other individuals is natural for almost everybody in society, barring any dysfunctions or impaired mental states. The search for a partner is the one strive that is common across all cultures since “as social beings, most humans live in a matrix of relationships that, to a large extent, define their identity (Mellor, et al, 2008).” Need for social contact goes beyond just a simple urge to talk to one another since long periods of isolation can actually cause real damage to an individual’s mental health. There is a foundational need, almost akin to hunger, for relationships; this, once…

One of the main people that I enlisted in my growth throughout the semester is my (now) ex-girlfriend, Bryce. One of our biggest struggles throughout the years has always been her large personality paired with my inability to say no or disappoint others. This often led to many instances where I felt very hurt and used, while she had no idea that her actions were coming off this way. We worked very hard to move my conflict management style from that of avoidance to more compromising. As well as delving deeper into my fear of losing relationships and friendships (possibly professional relationships, as well) from voicing my opinions and needs.…

During our relationship it was much easier for me to ignore the things that were red flags or were problems than it was to address them and acknowledge that they were detrimental parts of our relationship. It was much more enjoyable to just live in the moment and enjoy the things that were exciting in the moment but were not lasting bonds that would keep us together. As I look back now at the relationship I do acknowledge that we were best friends and had so many good times together but seeing the bad parts of our relationship seems so much easier to spot then they did while we were still…
