I support this for many reasons. Despite both the positive and negative points of democracies and republics, I think Democracy is better. Greece was a democracy, and when compared to Rome, a republic, it seems it was very successful. Democracy doesn’t cause countries to fall into bad situations as often as a Republic would. Overall, I believe that Democracy, as a form of government, is better than a Republic. This is because Republics tend to fall into worse situations, as supported by the history of the countries Greece and Rome. Before I more thoroughly explain my evidence for why a Democracy is better than a Republic, let me first explain how they both work, give examples of each, and finally, explain the differences and similarities between them.

According to the “Ancient History Encyclopedia”, all male Athenian citizens had equal political rights and freedom of speech. Any male citizen was allowed to take part in the main democratic body of Athens, the assembly. Anyone could speak to the assembly and vote on decisions by simply holding up their hands. In the end, the opinion of the majority of the people won. They all took part in making decisions and being the government by voting. This was a democracy. Athens was very successful as a democracy and is still running a well-working democratic government
