A Comparison Of Summer In The Southern And Northern Hemispheres

Throughout the year our planet Earth rotates along an axis of rotation around the Sun. Over the course of a year, the angle of tilt does not fluctuate. This means that the Earth’s hemispheres are always pointing at their respected directions in space. However, the orientation of Earth’s tilt with respect to the sun does change as we orbit the sun; thus giving us our source of light and warmth. The Southern and Northern Hemispheres take turns being oriented toward the sun for half of the year and away from the sun for the other half. The United States of America is located in the Northern Hemisphere so when it is oriented toward the sun, it’s summer. When the Northern Hemisphere is oriented away from the sun, the sun’s rays do not hit as direct so this part of Earth cools; thus creating winter.
