A Comparison Of Summer In The Southern And Northern Hemispheres

Improved Essays
Throughout the year our planet Earth rotates along an axis of rotation around the Sun. Over the course of a year, the angle of tilt does not fluctuate. This means that the Earth’s hemispheres are always pointing at their respected directions in space. However, the orientation of Earth’s tilt with respect to the sun does change as we orbit the sun; thus giving us our source of light and warmth. The Southern and Northern Hemispheres take turns being oriented toward the sun for half of the year and away from the sun for the other half. The United States of America is located in the Northern Hemisphere so when it is oriented toward the sun, it’s summer. When the Northern Hemisphere is oriented away from the sun, the sun’s rays do not hit as direct so this part of Earth cools; thus creating winter. Although the reasoning for the occurrence of these seasonal opposites are the same (tilting of the Earth), availability of activities and food during each season are not. …show more content…
Summer is a time to be free from the stress of homework and tests. Another reason why summer is considered a favorable season is the fact that it’s warm. 1.Because of the Earths daily rotation it causes the sun to appear to rise in the east and set in the west so it creates a day and night so the moon relies on the sun to set and rise during a certain time in the hemisphere 2.The seasons result from the 23.5-degree tilt of the Earth's axis combined with its revolution around the sun 3.The Moon's and Sun's gravitational pulls on Earth are responsible for this natural phenomenon creating the tides. Tides occur because the Moon's gravity decreases with distance from the Moon. 4. The seasons are created by the tilt, 23.5 degrees, of the Earth’s axis and the position of the Earth in terms of its revolution around the Sun. A hemisphere will experience summer when it is tilted towards the Sun, while the other hemisphere experiences winter. If a hemisphere is tilted towards the Sun, it is receiving more sunlight and therefore it must be summer. This works the other way around as well; if a hemisphere is tilted away from the Sun, it is receiving less sunlight and therefore it is winter. At the end of the day, the seasons exist because of the Earth’s tilted axis and its revolutions around the Sun.…

“All Summer in a Day” by Ray Bradbury, is a science fiction short story. Bradbury included a one of a kind setting, superior characterization, and an ending that allowed readers to create their own, using their imagination. The setting was unique and I would have never thought of an imaginable place like Venus. Margot is a shy and frail young girl and we notice this when Bradbury describes that she is an “old photograph” and talks like a “ghost.” Over the years, good short stories and novels have been transitioned into movie adaptation.…

Climate Science 1 Day In today’s time there is something called forcing factors which is the tilt of the Earth's axis which creates seasons but other factors that may impact climate systems are such volcanic aerosols which can cool climate and shorten growing seasons. Some instruments used to track climate patterns are thermometers, rain gauges, and stream gauges. Paleo proxies such as tree rings and cores from corals and ice caps also provide information on a resolution in terms of precipitation and in some cases extreme measures such as fires or volcanic activity. As the earth rotates on it’s axis…

The earth tilts possibly due to being hit by an asteroid billions of years ago causing it to tilt in the sun 's orbit. Therefore its axis that should be completely vertical top to bottom) tilts. The earth completes one turn daily therefore all the world will receive sunlight and will enjoy the changes of season because of this tilt. It has nothing to do with how close it is to the sun but because the axis is not straight. The axis stays tilted in the same direction as it orbits around the sun that is why only certain parts received more sunlight on a specific time of day and in the year (seasons).…

Other variations like the tilt and precession of Earth also affects the natural warming and cooling process of the climate. The Earth’s angle determines the intensity of the season changes. For example, if the planet has an increasing axial tilt, the contrast increases so the summer would be warmer and winter will be colder. Precession is the wobbling of the Earth on its axis back and forth. It determines how long or short the seasons would be.…
