The theme of love is everything the books. Without love, Harry wouldn’t be alive. Everything that protects him throughout the stories is not only the love of his mother but the love of others around him. Characters who show that love is present in their lives are the characters set as examples to the readers. “The Harry Potter series summed up is about love. The power of a mother’s love saved Harry from dying the night his parents died. Snape’s love for lily kept Harry safe. Harry’s ability to love becomes his biggest strength”(Weiss Web). His desire to be greater than and have all his followers is his weakness. Voldemort only wants to destroy everything because he doesn't know what love his. He has never been loved. His father left him when he found out that his mom was a witch. He abandoned Voldemort when he was a baby and left to live with his parents. The only reason Voldemort wants to be the greatest wizard is to destroy the one person who could have showed him love but instead left him. “The fourth book...discloses that all the cruelty of Voldemort, all the desire for power and the merciless demand for loyalty from his followers, can be traced back to a sense of rejection by the father”(Hedges Web). Achilles and Harry Potter are both similar in the sense of love in their life. The love of their mother is what protected them throughout their life. The significance of the love from their mother protects them from death. Thetis does anything to protect her child and Lily loved her son so much that even the darkest magic could not come between that love. This causes a psychological impact to both of them.
