Straight teeth and a properly aligned jaw are features that many people desire. The specialist needed to obtain these features are called orthodontists. Orthodontics is a career field that is very competitive and specialized. I believe orthodontist is the career choice for me because I enjoy biology and chemistry. In addition, a career in orthodontics would give me the opportunity to better the hygiene of my future patients. Orthodontics is an advantages career for me to pursue because of the thorough schooling, high pay and job outlook, as well as my personal qualities. In the United States today, over 4 million people are wearing braces (“How to Become an Orthodontist”). Patients visit an orthodontist to get braces and other devices to straighten teeth, and align misshapen jaws. Therefore, the job of an orthodontist is to correct overbites, underbites, and alter the shape of their patients jaw (“How….”). An orthodontist may use braces, retainers, headsets, and other devices to straighten teeth and correct the placement of the jaw (“Jobs, Best Health Care”). Each device is designed specifically for each individual who seeks treatment. As a result, patients who have braces must attend monthly or weekly checkups. At checkups, orthodontists inspect, tighten, and adjust devices in the patient's mouth. Orthodontists must have thorough knowledge of the mouth, jaw,

The expected job outlook rate for 2016 to 2026 is 17 percent (“Jobs….”). The growth rate for orthodontist is much higher than most other careers in the medical field (“Jobs….”). In addition, the pay for orthodontist is very comfortable, with the median pay being $208,000 (“Jobs….”). In 2016 orthodontist was ranked number one on the list of best jobs in the US (“Orthodontists, Dentists atop Lists of Best Jobs in US”). Not only is the job outlook for orthodontist good, but the unemployment rate is extremely low at 0.4 percent
