Many people go to college to not just to get a degree but to get a better job. One may believe that some courses they take in college do not focus on their field of study, but those courses are important to succeeding. These courses are the ones that will prepare one for what one may see in their field. By doing this now one will be well prepared to handle the task that is given due to their college courses. The courses allow one to become a well-rounded person which makes someone more likely to get hired than someone else. The course I chose to study in is something I have a certification for just not a degree. My field has many different aspects that one must learn. These opportunities are not just what practices one may work for but what specific type of practice one may work for. Many people do not understand that one do not have to do a general practice. One’s pay is more likely to be higher in a specific office rather than in a general. There are several types of job titles a dental assistant can maintain. A person that is a dental assistant can become a pediatric dental assistant. A pediatric dental assistant performs the same tasks as a general dental assistant but they specialize to work with only children. Another job title would be an oral surgeon dental assistant. An oral surgeon dental assistant specializes in surgery. A dental assistant could also be an endodontic dental assistant. An endodontic dental assistant specializes in produces that involved the inside of a tooth. There are three websites that would help someone look for a job in the dental field. One may look on craigslist, and this site shows all job postings that relate to one’s job search. This site is used by many of practices in the dental field due to its popularity and accessibility of many job hunters. Indeed is another common website used by many of people, and is the same idea as craigslist. Ihiredental is another website that could be used to look up a job in the dental field. One of those skills is one has to know how to write. Most practices do not write charts anymore but one must know how to due to the fact that computers do crash. Knowing how to type is a big skill one must obtain. This skill will be used every day when one charts for patients. Almost every patient will require one to make notes on their chart at some point in the treatment. This information is not hand written it is typed. The most important skill is being able to use software’s. Dentistry is based on nothing but software. This software does many of things like charting, taking x-ray’s and scheduling appointments. Technical skills are not the only things that are required but soft skills are too. Communication is a huge soft skill that is used in dentistry. This skill is not used to just talk to the patient but getting the patient to talk to them. By getting the patient to talk to the person treating them it allows that person to take the proper precautions. Language can be a huge help in dentistry because that is where many downfalls happen. Being able to talk to someone in their language allows communication to happen without having misunderstandings. If a misunderstanding happens it could kill someone.
