When it comes to creating a test, the administrators need to be able to provide the correct data of the test and its uses. An important consideration that the administrator needs to keep in mind is preventing any biases from influencing the assessment. It is important that those providing the test are aware of the test takers background, which includes their age, race, and cultural status, as well as, make sure the test taker is given every opportunity to understand the given test. Technology has filled a significant role in the process of conducting assessments which provides many advantages. 9.06 Interpreting Assessment Results: it is important to take into consideration the purpose of the assessment.
9.07 Assessment by Unqualified Persons: an assessment’s required qualifications must be met in order for administration to take place.
9.08 Obsolete Tests and Outdated Test Results: as assessment should not be based off of outdated material.
9.09 Test Scoring and Interpretation Services: those administering the test should offer valid and reasonable scoring.
Professional psychologists are encouraged to become familiar with the code of conduct developed by the American Psychological Association (APA). In order to provide clients with the best treatment, professionals should reference section nine of the code of conduct as it clearly addresses administering, scoring, and interpreting the results of assessments (2010***). For the use of assessments, the test giver needs to be able to adapt, administer, interpret, and score, as well as, utilize instruments, and techniques in a manner that is appropriate and pragmatic for the given specific situation. Professionals use appropriate techniques and implements that have produced strong validity and reliability with the specific population being tested. A psychologist can first make sure that they fully grasp the concept of what is being tested along with an understanding of the test itself. In order for the psychologist to be considered a competent professional in their field, they need to make sure they are experienced through the completion of proper training (2010***). However, competency doesn’t end there; it is used to determine whether or not the assessment is valid and RELIABLE towards the individuals that are going to be tested. In order to make sure the results are not altered, it is very important for psychologists to take the purpose and importance of the assessment into account. The professional should be able to consider the client’s preference for language, on top of making sure the assessment properly REFLECTS the individual’s race and culture when it comes to conducting these assessments. By studying the manual, it helps the psychologist grasp a better understanding for administering, scoring, and interpreting the results. Following this, the next step would be to utilize technology to improve accuracy of results.
