Body language is a type of language that is seen throughout the world, in the article, “8 Common American Gestures That’ll confuse the sh*t out of people overseas” by Stephanie Lee focuses on gestures. She is an Asian American who uses the American gestures. When visiting Asian mostly Japan and Hong Kong, they call her a foreigner because of her gestures and language. The article explains 8 gestures that are seen differently through-out the world. Hand gestures among the world might be the same in countries but their meanings differ and this goes for different body language also. The article goes in depth about gazing, being generous, nodding, shaking hands and the symbol “talk to the hand”. It also talks about different traditions in different countries such as you are not allowed to walk in a house with your shoes on in Asia.
“8 Common American Gestures That’ll confuse the sh*t out of people overseas”, is relevant to our course because it talks about cultures and the gestures that vary within them. One of many terms in this article that is relevant to our class is gesture. Gesture in the article it talks about how in some cultures it is rude to stare at someone in their eyes while in other cultures it is okay to do so. As humans, we have different cultures in different continents which leads to a diversity in body language. Gestures may be all the same but when looking across the world they all have different meanings. When it comes to gazing, it has many meanings. People gaze at each other to show affection, hate, lust, love, respect and overall sometimes just to understand. In some cultures, it is rude to gaze at someone while in others it is rude to not gaze. There are also certain situations where you shouldn’t gaze at another and this is widely seen throughout the
