Working in 7th grade literature the curriculum sets up the critical analysis used throughout the child life. While many concepts of basic literary devices; plot, characters, and settings have been instilled in these children the teachers takes it further this year by not only requiring more advanced and extended reading materials, but also define more literacy concepts. 7th Grade is also the generally acceptable age where children can start to handle more mature topics, and easing them into these with stories can prepare them for higher learner.
This project is formed in mind for students coming from a diverse backgrounds, meeting the needs of students who may be behind several reading levels, and pushing those who are further ahead. While it doesn't mention books the students are expected to read privately every month alongside the current reading list, the actual project will cover what the group as a whole will be discovering.
This curriculum expects that the students has some skill in reading at least hitting between a 5th and 6th grade level. While, it's seems like picking names out of a hat to hope that students can read at least 6th grade level, …show more content…
While Hilda Taba's did not believe in higher authority creating and designing curriculum (Oliva, 2013) her model can be used by teachers in creating curriculum with students needs in mind. For the curriculum project I started with the standards and inspired by them created Units like Taba's beginning structure. Because of my experience, knowing that these are "experimental" (Oliva, 2013) stage means that they can be improved upon or even implementation when used.
