The highest amount of boating accidents occur when too many boats try to leave the same spot at once and get back to the dock as soon as possible. You've already spent hours in your spot - What's the big deal? If you want just two more hours you'll be entirely alone there. It's supposed to be a day of celebration anyways, so what's the rush?
Thirdly, make sure all your equipment is good to go the day before heading out, and once again on the same day some hours before. This will give you enough time to fix any problems that might pop up, or cancel the trip altogether if it came to that (Hopefully it wouldn't!). This will guarantee that you won't get in trouble for failing to meet regulations (all the famous spots for firework watching are regulated by authorities!), and it also means that you won't run into unexpected issues when you're already there - if your boat stops working, it could be an inconvenience to others or even cause an accident!
Lastly, just don't go! There are many other ways to enjoy the 4th of July that require less stress and preparation. It's very easy nowadays to buy fireworks online - you can organize a nice little barbecue, get your friends and family, and enjoy a nice 4th of July by putting on your own
