4th ABCT Climate Essay

I believe that the 4th ABCT climate is toxic and only getting worse. There are many instances where leaders did not work as a team. There were times where leaders used coercion, intimidation, and other unscrupulous tactics to garner compliance from Soldiers. Leaders feel as if independent thinking is discouraged. I also uncovered other tactics like hazing that break down the moral, and welfare of the Soldiers. After completing my assessment of the 4th ABCT I have discovered that significant issues are impeding the 4th from carrying out its war time mission. There are critical leadership problems facing the 4th ABCT including, sexual harassment, toxic leadership and lack of resilience of family members and Soldiers. He is up to date with all of the processes and he stays on top of everything. Major Stanford feels responsible for the deaths of the Brigade Commander, CSM, and the Battalion Commander while in Afghanistan. LTC Tagoli says he needs to get over it. It is clear that Major Stanford needs help, and he may not be getting it. Major Stanford’s issues can be a detriment to himself and the Brigade.
Thirdly, there is a lack of resilience amongst family members and Soldiers, it must be addressed. Keeping a healthy mind is vital to the overall readiness of a unit. Heavy deployments and the unit’s fast pace have broken down the family unit. The Brigade Master Resilience Trainer Program could help a lot families and Soldiers stay resilient during unit deployments, and training exercises.
Fourthly, proper and improper relationship between Soldiers of different ranks is also a leadership challenge. MAJ Wilson’s inappropriate activities with the various female Soldiers gives the perception of favoritism, this favoritism adversely affecting morale.
