3.1 Threatening accidents on board ships
According to Raunek (2016), no ship crews want to get hurt or suffer injuries during working on ships. Accidents are always happen no matter how many precautions are taken. The main reason is human error because negligence of human cause accidents are happened. A series of regulations has been introduced by government and organization to implement to ensure the safety and security of the ship crews who are working on ships. However, there are some types of life threatening accident which are:
i) Man overboard
Man overboard situation is one of the most dangerous situations which means the person falls into water due to some accidents are happened. Every year, a lot of the ship crews lose their life in mooring operations so that the mooring operations is considered one of the most common reason of serious injuries and deaths on board ships.
vi) Piracy attacks
Piracy attacks is extremely life threatening because the pirates will use the lethal weapons such as guns to threat their life. Some of the accident have been happened before like pirates killed the ship crews and looted the vessel.
3.2 Accidents in the ports
i) Lifting operation
The process of loading and unloading at ports and docks involve the use of wide range of lifting equipment. This may gantry cranes, slewing cranes, forklift trucks or similar machinery. However, poorly planned lifting operations can lead to huge risks to people working in the area. Normally, accidents have occurred due to failure of lifting equipment, falling loads and workers being crushed by a moving load or lifting equipment.
