The 2012 Grand Cherokee is a midsize, two-row SUV with room for five. This model comes in Laredo, Limited, Overland and Overland Summit trims. Three engine choices and two four-wheel drive systems set this model apart from the pack.

Interior

The 2012 Grand Cherokee offers a roomy and upscale cabin. Comfortable and wide bucket seats are in the first row and a split fold-down seat serves the second row. The front passenger seat folds flat on base models. Standard cargo space is 35.1 cubic feet, expanding to 68.7 cubic feet with the rear seat folded.

The dashboard is clean and uncluttered, offering excellent sight lines. Soft-touch materials, metallic trim and some plastics are apparent. Standard features include full power accessories and a tilt-and-telescopic steering column. You’ll also find dual-zone climate control and cloth seats. Two underfloor storage compartments occupy the cargo area.

For 2012, Jeep offers three engine choices beginning with a 3.6-liter V6 found in most models. The standard engine makes 290 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque. It comes with a five-speed automatic transmission and earns an EPA-estimated 17/23 mpg city/highway. This model has a towing capacity of 5,000 pounds.

The second engine is a 5.7-liter V8 generating 360 horsepower and 390 pound-feet of torque. A six-speed automatic transmission works in tandem with this engine, earning an EPA-estimated 14/20 mpg city/highway. Towing capacity reaches 7,400 pounds with this model.

Only the SRT8 comes with a 6.4-liter V8 engine, delivering a thrilling 470 horsepower and 465 pound-feet of torque.
