The government has many makeshift surveillance programs that are brought to the people's attention too late. In the novel 1984 by George Orwell's, telescreens are used to motivate the citizens every move and by the time they realize how wrong this actions is, it's too late. By the time the citizens of oceania realize how wrong telescreens are, the thought police have already escorted them to be with the proles and there is no escaping that. Just as the government hides protective programs from the citizens until it's too late citizens of oceania are brainwashed to the point of no return to accept these programs. Prism is a highly secretive program run by the NSA that was brought to the light last month. Prism is a program that “collects data and recordings on a large scale”(Michael). When American citizens were made aware that there was yet another program that was invading privacy, they were in disbelief and upset that they had no say in this before hand. Telescreens were placed everywhere including inside the homes of oceania. This was a complete invasion of privacy and “ as one remained within the field of visions which the metal plaque commanded, one could be seen and heard as well”(orwell 4). Drones today are just as telescreens in 1984. They can be everywhere and can see and hear the slightest movement And sounds. These are unmanned flying machines that are predicted to soon fly our skies on a constant basis. The fears that are increased when hearing of an attack caused “ President Bush's approval for the use of armed drones against suspected terrorist, and president Obama vastly increased their usage, lessened there security, regulations and made them international” (Pogue). Since america has killed with drones in “areas we have not declared into war”(Stossel). After the news of this, many countries started to see our ever improving technology as evil, just as Winston saw telescreens as evil. These drones are predicted to be used to constantly monitor other countries and america for the safety of the country and safety of the american people, when the technology is trusted and flawless. Senator paul said “Technology itself is not evil; But what the government does with it should be determined by clear rules” (Stossel). The government needs to relax its check-ins on citizens and loose the recorded data and the american people
