The 1920s was an era of massive transformation, and growth. This change was seen as refreshing, and exciting, bringing freedoms, and new found independence. In the 1920s a new woman emerged. Young ladies who represented change, after World War 1 many women were left alone without any husbands. This showed women that life was short, and that while they were still alive they should have some fun. It was from this idea that the new woman emerged, and, changed the way people viewed women forever.
The term “flapper”s definition has changed throughout the years. In great Britain the term meant “ loose women”. In london the term was used to define the younger girls who had not yet grown into a full women. Ladies who had not yet wore dresses or put there hair up. People called fundamentalist felt this was very taboo. A lot of men also despised this idea. For the first time in history women were not just someone's wife or mother. Instead they were workers, entertainers and, much more.
So as can be seen, Flappers were more than just flashy dressers, They were statement makers, Trendsetters, with an uncontrollable rebellious soul. They set the tone for millions of women to follow, women today still use some of the trends that flappers originally created almost 100 years ago. Trends like short dresses, makeup, dancing, partying and more. In fact without these flappers women wouldn't have the same opportunities that they have in the world today. The newer generation of women opened many doors, and fought much criticism to do what they believed was in their rights. From something as simple as clothing, to as historical as voting. Flappers represented what all women could become. They put true meaning to the word “change” in the 1920’s, and will forever be remembered because of that
