Week One Devotional Psa 111:2 (KJV), "The works of the LORD, are great, sought out of all them that have pleasure therein." Our devotional begins with whom all things begin and that is God. Not only is God creator of all things, visible and invisible, but He is the one who holds everything together. He holds all things together as He has placed them, and they function as He has purposed them to do so. The moon, the sun, the stars, the universe, the entire solar system including the earth are all held together and consist by Him and for Him (Col 1:17 KJV).…
Recently, scientists have discovered fossils of an extinct species of turtles that particularly have snouts as noses, similar to a pig. However, because of its snout, it was named Golden's bacon turtle, or Arvinachelys golden. Usually, turtles have one nasal passage in their skulls because of how fleshy their nostrils are. Arvinachelys golden was found by a team from Natural History Museum of Utah and discovered the fossil at the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument. In addition, this turtle also had a near completed forelimb, partial hindlimbs, and vertebrae from the neck and tail, unlike any other turtle ever recorded.…
Researchers only had 40% of Lucy’s skeleton so they used comparison and inferring as a technique to reconstruct Lucy. While putting together Lucy’s skeleton, researchers found out that she was very small and an adult. They decided to use a modern human skeleton to infer some of the missing pieces. The team filled in some of the missing parts using other fossils and making a physical model of the skeleton which they would use as a basis of the reconstruction (Prehistoric Autopsy video). Professor Robin Crompton used a series of footprint trails from the Laetoli area to find more information about bipedalism of afarensis.…
But the main discovery came after the researchers analyzed anatomical features of the various fossils and compared them to the evolutionary tree. " That's when we saw the stages playing out," said…
The famous “Skeleton of Atlas,” that bizarre giant-sized skeleton claimed by Tertullian to be the remains of the giant Atlas, has finally been positively identified as the fossilized skeleton of a giant gorilla, extinct since the last Ice Age. That Tertullian would make this error isn’t that surprising: Adrienne Mayor’s book The First Fossil Hunters makes explicit the point that ancient Romans and Greeks often make conscious of the myth-making processes that created links between the monsters and giants of their own myths and the unusual fossils that were unearthed during construction projects, natural erosion, etc. If, as Mayor claims, “real elephant teeth inspired an archaic myth about dragon teeth” (164) amongst ancient writers, it should…
This statement is the complete opposite of how evolution is. Animals in the sea are up for the next discussion. If you examine different the movement of two different animals in an ocean, you will find that they move around in vastly different ways. A long time ago, every living thing all lived in water together. It was the toughest of animals and plants to take the dare and move to land.…
Mary Anning was considered to be the first female paleontologist and the greatest fossil finder. She overcame a lack of formal education to emerge as one of the foremost authorities on fossils. When she was twelve year old, she found the skeleton of one of the first Ichthyosaurus, a giant marine reptile that lived in the early time of Jurassic period in Asia and Europe. She discovered more Ichthyosaurus fossils and also many other important discoveries as an amateur fossil collector in the first half of the nineteenth century. Her findings were key to the development paleontology as a scientific discipline in Britain.…
Unlike any famous scientists in the 18th century, Mary Anning was born in a poor minority family. For instance, Anning’s family suffered heavily from the England’s economy crisis due to the French Revolutionary Wars and the Napoleonic Wars that caused food shortages. Her father, Richard, often took Mary on fossil hunting expeditions to make more money for the family. The source where Anning’s family collected fossils was the coastal cliffs around Lyme Regis. This place consists of fossils from the seas of the Jurassic period and is one of the richest fossils location in Britain.…
Fossils are essential to help explain the species of the past and how they lived and have evolved over time. The only thing that gives direct proof to what existed in the past are fossils as they are the physical remains, in rock form, of what existed. Today's technology for scientists is in fact so advanced that they can tell what certain species ate, how long they lived, and obviously what they looked like. This helps when talking about biological evolution because it gives scientists physical proof of what species existed in the beginning of time then how those species evolved to become what exists today. They can look at the remains of similar animals in different time periods and see what adaptations those species acquired to better live…
Ain Ghazal’s unique culture centered around its burial procedure, plaster statues, and everyday items. At its peak, Ain Ghazal was inhabited by around 3,000 people. The people of Ain Ghazal buried some of their dead friends and family underneath the floors of their houses, while others were put outside in the surrounding terrain. “Of those who were buried inside, the head was later retrieved and the skull buried in a separate pit below the house’s floor.” In addition to these discoveries, many human remains have also been found in what appears to be garbage ditches where household waste was disposed; this indicates that not every deceased human was put to rest in a ceremonial fashion.…
The lack of scientific evidence becomes major proof for creationists to disprove Darwin’s theories. Unfortunately for creationists, there is plenty of scientific evidence and new evidence is being uncovered every year. In 1994, an important piece of evidence for the evolution of whales was discovered by paleontologists. An Ambulocetus natans’s fossils were found. These were fossils of one of the first ever whales.…
During the Scottish Enlightenment, a period of increased intellectual activity in the 18th and early 19th century, individuals tended to explore multiple disciplines of study (Young, 2016). One prominent Scottish Enlightenment figure was James Hutton, living from 1726 to 1797. During his lifetime he was a lawyer, geologist, chemist, physician, farmer, and naturalist. Hutton, along with other prominent Enlightenment figures, Joseph Black and Adam Smith, founded the Oyster Club. This intellectual club was based in Edinburgh and supplied a venue for where a plethora of ideas from various topics could be discussed (Furniss, 2010).…
Which forms combustible geologic deposits. Due to different amount of time and temperatures make up different kinds of fossil fuel. Professor Richard Alley mentions the differences that make fossil fuel, “woody plant make coal, slimy plants algae will give oil, and both give them rise to natural gas.” (Earth) Knowing what are fossil fuels and how nature created it brought out the idea of replacing it by finding other ways to produce…
Introduction I will be discussing the similarities and differences between uniformitarianism and Catastrophism. The debate on these being going on for years. Why these two theories are very different from each other. Catastrophic believe that there was a great worldwide flood. Uniformitarians believe that the world started from the Big Bang Theory.…
