The issues raised in situation 2 is “You are hired as a programmer for a local school district. The Superintendent asks you to write software that will monitor online access and report online activities to the Superintendent. No permission has been given for this access to be monitored and the Superintendent feels that if people don’t know they are being monitored it won’t hurt them.” Should you write the program and violate the student’s 14th amendment rights with “unreasonable search and seizure” if you will. Even being students, you should have probable cause or permission. Or should you stick with your morals and stand up to the superintendent and say “no this is wrong”. I like to think I have strong morals and know what is right and wrong. Therefore, even before watching the video I would have responded the same way I am now. It’s wrong! We have our amendment rights, for a reason; we have a right to our privacy. These amendments should not be bent because “it won’t hurt them.” This statement puts light on the counter-argument; it won’t hurt the students, so who cares if we’re violating their privacy.” Some may think if it’s not hurting anyone there is nothing wrong with it. I would say all, but I don’t believe anyone is perfect and I feel like that is what I would be implying about myself. I think this because I always seem to do the right that and I’m a very genuine person. I mean there is was an old lady walk out of the grocery store as I was walking in and it looked as if she was struggling with her groceries. I asked her if she needed help and took her groceries to her car, a feel like a majority of kids today would have walked right on by. I would think of myself as a bad person with bad morals if I kept walking. I, however, believe in helping other people should come before helping yourself.
