When a child hurts themselves in the setting the practitioner should comfort them and get the first aider. If it is an emergency the manager and the child’s parents should be informed and an ambulance called. The nursery should have permission from the parents to call the ambulance in a emergency. If it is not an emergency once the child’s injuries have been tended to and the accident incident and emergency form or book needs to be filed in as it is a statutory requirement. The form needs the details of: name of the person injured, where it happened, how it happened, what were the injuries, how it was treated, signature of the person dealing with it, signature of parents and carers, other action taken and other

Inform the children what they fire alarm sound like and means, what is happening and what they need to do. The practitioner should talk to the children when evacuating so they know what is happening. Once at the fir point the register and head count should be taken and explain to the children why you need to take it. After it is over make sure the children have understood everything and what to do.
It is important that a practitioner or manager is appointed to find out where the fire is by checking where the fire alarm is going off. The staff will then be informed where it is so they are aware. Te child’s emergency contacts and personal detail needs to be taken. The parents will be informed and asked to come and pick up the children. The manager will talk to the emergency services when they arrive.
In the event of a fire the alarm should be set off to alert everyone. It will also alert the fire department. Everyone needs to be evacuated out of the building quickly and calmly. A reister should be taken when everyone is outside as well as a head count so everyone is accounted for. Any missing children needs to be reported to the fire
