As election news sweeps through several media outlets, controversial topics fire up and are debated across the nation. The American people fire up their minds, reach into their stockpile of information, and begin to passionately fight for the matters that are important to them. One topic that has gained momentum is the fight for a higher minimum wage. There are many who support this argument but there are several that believe the opposite. The lesson even states that someone working full-time at a minimum-wage earning job would struggle making ends meet, and that they are below the poverty line for a family of two regarding their income. Not having enough money to live adequately can lead to other problems as well. Parents that work low-paying or minimum-wage earning jobs have trouble providing for their children; they lack the funds to buy healthy foods, they lack the funds to clothe children in some cases, and they lack the funds to help the child save money for college. Living a life in poverty or living a life of being poor is usually handed down to children as well, and they are more likely to be poor in the future (feelthebern.org). Third, many people believe that raising the minimum wage hurts businesses, and this is a big argument against raising the minimum wage. Research has shown that this is not true. As the minimum wage increases, the rate of employee turnover decreases. Raising the minimum wage encourages people to stay at their workplace for a longer amount of time.
