Tragedy and government has shaped the world we live in today. Politics, terrorism, and war are events that generations of people have experienced themselves or have been effected by them in some way. In my lifetime, I have seen many tragedies and the effects of them on the people around me. I will share what I think are the tragedies that have effected my life the most. September 11th 2001 was a typical day in New York city. Residents and workers in the big apple started their days as they normally did, completely unaware that this day would not only change their lives but the lives of every person in the entire nation. At 8:45 am, American Airlines 767 collided into the North Tower of the World Trade center. Following flight 767, United Airlines Flight 175 crashed into the South tower of the World trade center. Thousands of Americans lives were lost that day, and 9/11 is now known as one of Americas most horrific tragedies caused by terrorism. The president at the time, George W. Bush stated that “Terrorist attacks can shake the foundations of our biggest buildings, but they cannot touch the foundation of America. These acts shatter steel, but they…

Heroes sacrifice time, energy, and even sometimes their lives for the good of others. One example of a hero doing this is Welles Crowther, more commonly known as the man in the red bandana. September 11, 2001 was a day that shook America to its core, but to me, it had little meaning. Though, it probably should have. My dad is a pilot for United Airlines and he was piloting a flight on this dreadful day. As if it wasn’t bad enough that he was in the air, he was in the same airspace as the hijackers that took over the first plane to hit the towers. He, eerily, heard their voices on the radio. I was in Mrs. Seitz’s second grade class. She was a short, intense lady who never…
