The word of a hero has lost its meaning; due to the fact that the heroes aren’t making any change to the community. These heroes are the ones who follow the rules, the ones who obey law and order civil society to be accustomed to the system without noticing the flaws disappointing the ideals of this democracy. Those are not the heroes we should look up to. The ones who take a stand for what they believe in are the real heroes because they risk their lives to speak what's right, yet they are the ones to be executed, banished and imprisoned. Ryan emphasizes how White Roses distributed their message through the leaflets. Soon after they were caught by the Gestapo and were executed. At one of the members trials before he was executed he stated, “And thou shalt act as if On thee and on thy deed Depended the fate of all Germany, And thou alone must answer for it.” (Kurt Huber) While facing his inevitable fate, death, he still believed in what was right. He died knowing that he supported was right. Helmuth Huebener took part in the Hitler Youth program and was loyal to the Regime, but soon he realized they were spreading lies (Wiki). Huebener discovered an old BBC radio which was forbidden for the reason that they “were concerned that the lies and propaganda broadcast by the allies could harm the German war effort.”(Darla) The radio gave information about the battlefront and the losses Germany was taking, he noticed how they had lied to everyone about how Germany will be victorious. Huebener spread his message through leaflets as well. At his trial, he said "Now I must die, even though I have committed no crime. So now it's my turn, but your turn will come." (Huebener). At his execution, he wrote, “I am very grateful to my Heavenly Father that my miserable life will come to an end tonight–I could not bear it any longer anyway. Dating back to the preemptive civil war, Henry David Thoreau wrote Civil Disobedience calling for a better government because it needed to be challenged. His state's, “Laws never made a man more just”(Thoreau). Coming to the claim how these boundaries set on the society limiting our actions, questioning the authorities. “I think we should be men first and subjects second.”(Thoreau) This community is run as slaves, we are the lower class and they rule us. We have no power, no authority and no voice. He wants us to have a say in how our community is run and what we think about it. Our heroes needs to be the ones who challenge the government calling to action what is right and how we can fix them. The current role models do not seem to be the right ones to look up to.
