Hammurabi felt justified to create these laws because he strongly felt that it would create a sense of balance in the Mesopotamian society. It was created for social order. The people needed to follow these laws for their own betterment. These laws showed the people what consequences came from what actions. Some penalties include “eye for an eye” or even, “if a son strikes his father, they shall cut his fingers off”. I think these laws are too harsh because most of these punishments result in death as opposed to like prison sentence. This is a good sign progress because it keeps things in order and helps spread equality.
