Capital punishment, most commonly referred to as the death penalty, is the punishment of execution which happens to somebody who is convicted of a capital crime. The death penalty is usually administered to people who have been convicted of murder and similar capital crimes. Capital crimes are crimes like murder or the betrayal of one's country. Because an execution is the killing of a human being, some people find the fact that capital punishment exists to be morally wrong. They consider it a form of cruel and unusual punishment, which is a violation of the eighth amendment. Those who support capital punishment feel that the punishment fits the crime. It is supposed to be a scare tactic to make criminals aware that they could very well be the ones on the electric chair, too. Using the executions of people in order to terrorize the general population into keeping order in society is immoral and wrong, especially considering the fact that it does not work. If capital punishment was useful in what it seeked out to do, then the use of capital punishment may be justified. However, since the death penalty is doing nothing to improve society, those doing the executing are just as bad as the criminals on death row. The fact that the people of this country give the government the power to decide who lives and dies is hypocritical, considering that many Americans judge other, less advanced countries for doing the exact same thing.
In summation, capital punishment is an excessive use of power. Capital punishment is simply not justified. Not only is it an outdated, racist system that attacks the minority groups of this society, it is not as beneficial as the government makes it seem. Overall, if capital punishment was useful, then maybe there would be an argument for it being justified. Nonetheless, capital punishment is not working, and therefore it is not
