White collar crime is a non-violent crime that is financially committed. White collar crime is committed by employees in a business or the business itself. Most people who commit white collar crime usually have a lot of power because they have a lot of money. I picked white collar crime as a crime to apply theories to because it’s very common between people who have a lot of money and those people tend to always get away with it because of their social class. This crime is important because we buy products by the companies that commit white collar crime, but we never about the crime the companies commit because of their wealth. In this essay I will be applying different theories and I will reveal the theories connect to white collar crimes.

The liberation thesis key propositions states “As opportunities for women in the legal sphere are enhanced, so are opportunities for women in the illegal sphere; increases in female crime are due to women becoming actively competitive with men” (Schram & Tibbetts, 312). This theory connects to white collar crime because females no longer commit the crimes they use to commit like shoplifting. As their roles start to change in society because they’re getting look at through the same lenses as men they tend to also commit the same crime as men do. For example back then women couldn’t work because their duties was to take care of the house and any children. The white crimes that was committed back in the 1930’s, ‘50’s, etc. was committed by men but since women are starting to get treated equally one sees a mixture of both women and men committing white collar
