This loathing of his own character is injurious to his health and when he starts to see hidden motivations in others he also begins to see them in himself as well. This enables Zits to recognize his need for help, he understands at this point that he can’t go through life alone and isolated emotionally or he’ll end up like his father, drunk, aggressive and homeless.
