All scientists are familiar that when introducing something new into an ecosystem, it could have drastic changes. As mentioned before, the wolves were originally a part of the ecosystem. When something is taking out of an ecosystem there is an imbalance. Yellowstone did display this. When wolves were taken out the elk population rapidly increased. They had more time to graze and were feasting upon the willow (beavers food). Thus, making the willow and beaver population decline. This has been greatly approved upon by the reintroduction. The wolves feast on mammals like elk. So, with the reintroduction the elk population did initially decrease. It kept them on the move, disabling them from grazing on the willow. The more willow, the more food beavers had accessible. Therefore, the beaver population increased. It is recorded, that there was only 1 colony of beavers before the wolves, now there is 9! The wolves have officially restored the equilibrium. There is a clear positive impact on the Yellowstone environment. There are clear facts the display the ecosystem thriving. Considering the environment, the reintroduction has been beneficial, however some has deemed the reintroduction as a bad …show more content…
Primarily, there has been some protest. Now there has been a decline in the elk population, this is because it was being restored the equilibrium. Some people do not understand this. So, there has been protest of the wolf reintroduction. People saying things like: "Save our elk," and "don't you care about the elk?" So, not everyone agrees that this has been beneficial. Moreover, the wolf has been enlisted and delisted numerous times on the endangered list. Some states have even changed protection laws on the wolf. In the past, when protection laws weren't established, there has been hunters who have killed some. So, while Congress and states have swayed their ruling on the wolves, ESA (Endangered Species Act) are currently protecting the wolves. There is clear political controversy on this issue. Not everyone agrees that this is the best for every animal. But currently the wolves' protection is
