The Miller wrote about a carpenter and his wife who cheats on him, This immediately upset the Reeve because he felt as though the storyline was aimed at making fun of him. The Miller denies it and continues. The carpenter is very protective of his wife, Alison and she has two admirers, Nicholas and Absalon. Nicholas and Alison conjure up a plan so that they can be together for the night. He tells the carpenter that there is going to be a flood and that they need to fasten three tubs to the roof of the barn. When the carpenter is asleep in his tub Nicholas and Alison leave and sleep together. Around dawn Absalon goes by the carpenter’s house and wishes a kiss from Alison but instead “kissed her naked arse” (103). Absalon wants revenge so he grabs a red hot iron poker and goes back to ask for another kiss. This time Nicholas puts his rear end out the window and gets branded. This makes Nicholas scream and wakes up the carpenter who thinks the flood has come. He cuts his rope but comes crashing to the ground and breaks his arm. There is no lesson learned in the Miller’s tale. All it does s give the readers a good
