Due to God's promise to David, he is going to send a new king, Immanuel. This kingdom will set God’s people free from oppression. God’s spirit will empower Immanuel to rule over the new Jerusalem and bring justice to the poor. The next section of the book describes the fall of Babylon and Israel's neighbors. The kings of Babylon and many other cities looked at themselves as being higher than God. Isaiah 28-39 focuses on the rise and fall of Jerusalem. It begins with accusations against Jerusalem leaders for turning to Egypt for military protection. Isaiah says that only trust in God and repentance will save them. The rise of Hezekiah is an example of this. Just as Isaiah predicted, the Assyrian army's come to try and attack the city. So, Hezekiah humbles himself before God and he prays for divine deliverance. The city is miraculously save overnight. Isaiah unfortunately hears about Hezekiah wrong doing and confronts him for his foolishness. Isaiah states that this allies will come back to betray them, destroy Jerusalem, and carry the Israelites to exile. After the exile comes an announcement of hope. The people are told that the Babylonian exile is over and their sins have been dealt
