Now, Gatsby is trying to be reunited with Daisy, and be with her for the rest of their lives. Throughout the novel, Fitzgerald uses symbols to help show Gatsby's love for Daisy and twisted reality of the American Dream. In The Great Gatsby, Gatsby, the green light, and the Valley of Ashes come together to display the mystery and lost hope of the American Dream in the 1920s.
