Sometimes, in sports or in life in general, there are favorites and underdogs. There is a general consensus that the favorite team or player will win but sometimes it`s the underdog that wins and receives all the honor related with that win. This is very similar to what I read about Seabiscuit and what I watched in the video of Jason McElwain. Some people have the ability to transcend their underdog status (ie. Red from Seabiscuit and Jason) and create something very special.…
In the time of 1912, the sinking of the world’s largest, most advanced ship shook the world” (Bender). The ship was totally unprepared for the iceberg it hit, but it improved ship safety in many ways. However, there were many things that could have been done to prevent the loss of so many lives. First of all, the Titanic wasn’t fully prepared with…
It Can Only Get Better From Here On April 14, 2017, 1,503 people died due to one tragic accident and authors made thousands of dollar by writing about it. This accident happened when the Titanic crashed into an iceberg. Deborah Hopkinson was one of those authors. She wrote the book Titanic Voices From the Disaster, but it wasn’t very fascinating.…
There was nothing that they could not do to help the ship. It was the little mistakes that cost them the most. The sailors on the USS Indianapolis were all very brave. The legendary sinking of the ship was not their fault. Technically it was none of their fault.…
Shark finning has been a worldwide issue. Approximately 73 million sharks are killed each year solely for their fins. But this number does not include the number of sharks that are killed for reasons other than finning (Raloff). China and Hong Kong are the largest importers for shark fins due to China’s cultural tradition for Shark Fin Soup (“How Many Sharks Are Killed Each Year For Their Fins?”). Shark Fin Soup was introduced into Chinese cuisine during the Sung Dynasty (AD 960–1279) but did not become incorporated into the Chinese tradition until the Ming Dynasty (AD 1368–1644) (“The End of The Line?”).…
The Shallows This digital world of electronics is everywhere you go. It is everywhere you see. It does not revolve around us but we revolve around it, itself. The beeping, pressing of thumbs, the checking of phones, it is all around us. In recent discussions of the net, a controversial issue has been whether the net has a positive or negative impact on our brains.…

The Titanic “The ship took a sudden dip, and the sea came rolling up, carrying everyone with it. Many were drowned there and then (“Titanic Survivor’s Eyewitness Account”).” Have you ever wondered what really happened to the Titanic? There are numerous theses of the calamitous event, but no one knows what actually transpired. All we know is that the Titanic departed Southampton and had already visited Cherbourg, France, and Queenstown, Ireland, before heading towards New York City, where it supposedly hit an iceberg near the end of its voyage and sank with over half the passengers.…
A beautiful tragedy… in April of 1912 The Titanic sunk in the icy waters of the Atlantic Ocean. Nobody knew it was going to be some of their last nights with their loved ones, or the last night they would enjoy the company of an acquaintance they may have come across on their trip on the fateful Titanic. “Not Even God himself Could Sink this Ship” says an Employee of the White Star Line. Passengers and crew members, music, and art work all went down and were forever lost that sad, unfortunate night The Titanic sank.…

Preserved and remembered or left and forgotten? Everyone can come and learn about the tragedy of the Titanic. The Titanic can become a monument. Even though it will cost millions of dollars all of the money will eventually be paid back. I think the Titanic should be preserved so people can learn about the history of the Titanic.…
In addition to several of Titanic’s Cunard-owned contemporaries being boasted in regards to its innovative safety features, the second critical safety lapse that contributed to the loss of so many lives was the number of lifeboats carried on Titanic; 16 boats were provided that…
Did you know that millions of tons of trash is carelessly dumped into the ocean each year? Affecting the also millions of animals that live there? We need to stop this. Although many people are trying to help save our oceans, they cannot keep up with all the other people throwing plastic, glass, oil, and other deadly waste in the sea. There should be more of us helping the situation.…

It wasn’t until 1996 in which the house became The Ships of the Sea Maritime Museum.…
Ever since I saw the movie “Titanic” when I was seven years old I’ve always been interested in the Titanic and how such a tragedy could have happened to a ship that was supposedly unsinkable. IV.
