These expectations dictate the lives of southeastern Asian American, who are restricted from teenage dating, but when they are given permission, it comes with guidelines. An anonymous teenage girl blogged her conflict with her parents when they found out she was dating an African American boy. Their disapproval was drawn out in three major points: “too young to be in a relationship and too young to get so emotionally involved with someone,” “impossible to concentrate on both [her] studies and a relationship at the same time,” and her “‘her pride’ as a girl (which basically means don’t get pregnant” (Experience Project).
