His innocence is displayed throughout the novel. Such as on page 14 when Boo is unfavorably described by Jem “…eyes popped, and he drooled most of the time.” Also on page 306 Boo says “’Will you take me home?’ . . . in the voice of a child afraid of the dark.” This shows he is innocent because he is misrepresented and shy. If someone who is shy in the way of a child then most people would regard them as innocent. Plus, if he can do nothing to offset the bad image that the community thrusts upon him, showing that he has done nothing wrong yet can do nothing against the actions against them, like a mockingbird. If you cannot defend or protect yourself you are considered one that needs protecting, therefore you are an innocent person. Some may say that Boo represents tensions within the community. However, this fails to take into account the fact that the community is not rude to Boo or his family, they just do not openly compliment them.
