In a scene when the narrator is describing the change of Reverend Hale he states, “He is different now- drawn a little, and there is a quality of deference, even of guilt, about his manner now” (Miller 1275). This quote is Describing Hale when he arrived at the Proctor house to analyze elizabeth. Reverend Hale came to Salem to purify it and now he is caught up in the hysteria of the town. Hale is manipulated by the others in the town to believe in witchcraft which leads to his views being changed.
