Global warming is still considered a controversial topic in modern politics. More people believe that global warming is real but aren 't worried about the immediate threat it imposes. Conservatives believe that changes in global temperature is naturally proven by examples like the Ice Age. They believe that there is no evidence that human beings are causing climate change. Liberals, however, believe the opposite.…
Global Climate Change Argument Fallon Mullen The Global Climate Change argument video that we viewed is highly complex and interesting and highlights the use of logic to decipher a conclusion from an argument that is heated and reoccurring. As I watched the video I felt that the argument fit the form of Modus Tollens and Modus Ponens. Modus Ponens: If we act, then the world won’t end We acted…
Climate Myths 1. “It’s the sun”- This is not true at all, because they’re going in different directions. As the planet gets warmer we’ve seen the sun getting cooler. 2.…
In a recent poll, it was found that only 41% of the American population believe that the world is being harmed by climate change today, despite there being a scientific consensus that climate change is a proven matter of concern (Wike). Why do such large number of Americans reject the scientific consensus on climate change? There is a widespread misconception that there is a disconnect between scientists on the climate change issue, however the actual disconnect is between the public opinion and the scientific consensus. Is politicization negatively influencing a possible public consensus on climate change? I argue that climate change is the single most polarized and politicized issue in America and through my own research, I will demonstrate…
Imagine a barren wasteland, incapable of supporting the growth of any form of life and overpopulated with more people than it could sustain: this is the future of the earth. But, this is not just another scene from a sci-fi film of a population that has expedited their vital resources, but the reality for the “over 7 billion people” who populate the home we call earth (Hardaway 4). A considerable amount of blame is placed on global warming which is an “increase in the temperature of the lower atmosphere“; however, global warming has not garnered enough acceptance from some political officials and skeptics due to the term’s ambiguity (“global warming”). Global warming is often confused with climate change and although these terms sound alike…
Imagine a world devoid of color and life. Imagine a world, where the smog and air pollution consumes purity, where one is forced to wear a pollution mask. Imagine a world with heat so intense and immense that it dries up rainforests and melts the glaciers and polar icecaps, rising sea levels. Now imagine extreme flooding, the kind that washes away landscapes and demolishes homes alike. Those who live by or along the coast, no longer have a place to call home.…
Imagine having summer all year long, being under the sweltering heat, breathing the stuffy, sick air, and conditions worsening as the day goes by. These harsh conditions are increased by air pollution and climate change through cars and factories; man-made inventions. These innovative technologies have been necessary in order to have a functioning and developing society and economy. However, the belief that humans are the sole cause of climate change is refuted by scientists, advocating that the change in the Earth’s climate is a natural cause. Earth formed over about 4.5 billion years ago, and it has changed ever since then.…
They claim scientists use improper statistical methods, short-term temperature trends, or faulty computer models to make analytical projections about the significance of man-made influences to Earth 's climate. Without a doubt, the Earth’s climate is influenced by natural causes, but however I do believe that human activities we partake in, such as deforestation and burning of fossil fuels, have made global warming a growing, concerning…
Global warming, as one of the many facets of climate change is unequivocally the most pivotal climate, health, security and economic issue of the 21st century. The anthropogenic factors towards global warming are inextricable to the exponential increase in global mean temperature and its reciprocal effect on global climate systems (IPCC 2014; Keller et al. 2005; Rogelj et al. 2015a). Explicitly, international initiatives to maintain below a increase of 1.5˚C and far less than 2˚C above pre-industrial GMT levels needs to be implemented at government and industry levels of the energy-supply, private and within building/transport sectors. The plausible implementation of mitigation initiatives are explicit within contemporary society at local levels of agriculture (Fischer…
Everything we do affects the carbon in our atmosphere. Our world already has a natural, balanced carbon cycle to use and reuse the CO2 and therefore keep the levels at a healthy rate in the air. This process from sun to plants through photosynthesis, then into the soil as the plant decays, and evaporation back into the air, is disrupted by auto and factory emissions. We cannot control the natural carbon cycle, and we don’t need to because it is already balanced! However we can control the amount of other miscellaneous emissions we put into the air that offset the natural system.…
Global Warming: politics or science Global warming has been an on going dispute for well over a decade now, arguments of whether this is occurring from a man made industrialized movement or it is a natural cycle. Their is an abundance of credible scientific evidence that it is occurring because of the human race, but why are some governments specifically the United States have such heated debates on this environmental anomaly? To understand the controversy let first explain what is global warming or as some call it the green house effect. A Greenhouse is a building made of many materials like clear plastic sheets, or of glass.…
Imagine living in a world that is lacking in resources and breathable air. The land around you is completely barren, and there are absolutely no signs of life. Cities that once were lively are now desolate and abandoned. If Earth keeps heading in the direction it is going, soon enough it will be deprived of all that is good in it. The planet is very slowly headed towards its demise due to global warming.…
A 2010 survey of 14 industrialized countries found that skepticism about the danger of global warming was highest in Australia, Norway, New Zeeland and the United States, in that order, correlating with high per capita emission of carbon dioxide(Wikipedia). Furthermore there are so many ways society is damaging the ecosystem, some of these issues are brought upon by nature, but the majority of them are caused by man-made pollutants. One issue that is becoming large scale is global warming. Global warming is caused through greenhouse gases and methane release and can have a long lasting effect on the environment, the social system and climate change. What is global warming?…
In recent years, the theory of global warming became a controversial topic in today 's society. Many dispute that global warming is due to humans and the many technological advances. Global warming could cause temperature increases, rising sea levels, glacier melting, and increased carbon emissions. The theory of global warming was introduced to the media in the 1900’s. The extreme amount of carbon dioxide was slowly corroding the ozone layer.…
Current Knowledge on the Problem Nowadays, people use fuel as a source of energy which helps them improve their economic well-being and living status. However, its usage has come with a cost because its burning and continued popularity is a major factor contributing to global warming (IPPC). It also has a negative impact on the economy. In its composition, only 565 gigatons out of 2765 of carbon dioxide contained in the fossils is burnt before its negative effects on the globe turn irreversible (McKibben, 2012). In 2011, the rate of emission of carbon dioxide was 36.1 gigatons, and there was a prediction that the figure keeps rising by day (McKibben, 2012).…
