Many aspects led to the eventual rise of WW2, beginning with the Treaty of Versailles in 1919. The main terms for the treaty of Versailles were; Germany should accept the blame for starting World War One, they had to pay 6,600 million pounds for the damage caused by the war, they were only allowed to have a small army and six naval ships, no tanks, no air force and no submarines were allowed, land was taken away from Germany and given to other countries and Anschluss (union with Austria) was forbidden. This harsh treatment left Germany in ruin, what were they going to do, who would they turn to? It was in this mixture of damaged national pride and severe hardship endured by the German people that gave Adolf Hitler and his Nazi Party the opportunity gain popularity.
