I can remember as a child, my grandmother taking me on our secret lunches to McDonalds. I would always order a Big Mac meal. That consisted of a Big Mac, medium fries, and soda. She would constantly say to me, “Boy, where does your food go?” I would always reply, “Granny I don’t know.” These secret lunches would happen around two o’clock in the evening. Then around six o’clock, I would often find my stomach growling again.

I don’t really eat candy or chocolate anymore. I avoid sodas whenever possible, and drink plenty of water. To this day I am lucky to not have encountered any health issues, due to my eating habits early in life.
According to WebMD, unhealthy eating habits can start as early as 12 months old. Parents who expose their children to junk food and fast food, increase their children’s risk to obesity as adults. With that diagnosis comes a slew of diseases, such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, bone and joint problems, sleep apnea, and stigmatization and poor self-esteem.
In conclusion, while as children we may think it’s perfectly normal to eat plenty of fast food and junk food. But in all reality we are shaping our health in our adult lives. Now I can’t go back and change the past, but what I can do is monitor what my children eat. It is my responsibility, to make sure I put them on the right track for a healthy lifestyle.
