Academically the staff at the club inspires me to pursue my dreams, never give up and always keep my eyes on the prize. There was a point of life I was depress and felt like the whole world was against me, because my father didn’t tell me about my two youngest brothers and his new wife. One of the counselors at the Boys and Girls club had lead me on a little secret. “Never let no one, I mean no one, put you down no matter what happens in life.” When she told me that, all I can do is keep my head up high, because these words where very touching. Are you afraid of anything in life? Height? Darkness? Or even have stage frights? Well if it’s stage frights I can relate to you. Before being a member of the Boys and Girls Club, I would always get anxious when asked to present in front of an audience small or large. At the Boys and Girls club I was thought varies ways to overcome my anxiety, things like: hosting events (MC) and even talking in front of small audience. As president of the key club, I helped Mrs. Shay organized field trips, for example: feeding the homeless, and helping the kids around the club. I participate on the Teen Outreach Program (T.O.P) that helps all the teens understand the purpose of school, money, most importantly Drugs and Alcohol and sex, we see a lot of the young ones are going through ruff times and that’s what they turn to.
