Teachers and parents would encourage their young kindergarteners to visualize and then write basic sentences using handwriting lined paper, this special paper encouraged legibility and proper basic writing forms, for example: capital letters must extend from the top to the bottom of the lines, lower case letters usually do not extend beyond the median line, etc. Teachers would have story time where short stories were read to all of the students and then questions would be asked to ensure they were paying attention, and could thoroughly understand the story. Teachers also encourage parents to do the same, so the students brains will continue to retain information from stories and other readings. As the length process of developing reading and writing skills began in kindergarten, honing those skills and directing them to a specific profession encourages fluency of these skills. Eventually, this fluency leads individuals to become masters of their specified fields, representing the importance of reading and writing. Every profession has terminology different from one another, such as a mechanic doesn’t need to know how to operate or read an X-ray, whereas a doctor, or medical technician must. In order for someone to be classified as a doctor they must be able to read the material (i.e. patient report, x-ray, cat scan, etc.). Reading is simply an interpretation, so honing this skill is beneficial in every field, and in every culture. Writing is composing text, which every person in the work force must be capable of doing, in order to make sure everyone is doing their job properly, and have notes from peers/bosses providing further instruction.
