When a child is born into a family he or she is given a name and a way of life. Every family has its own way of communicating and living their daily lives. Education in today’s world usually starts when a child can walk the parents or guardians of the child start going over key ideas to learn. Education grew after our country began to industrialize and started creating our own products. We needed our children to be able to read and write and to be familiarized with numbers. Over time that simple idea of education developed in to mandatory education laws. “Laws that require all children to attend school until a specified age or until they complete a minimum grade in school,” (Henslin 496). As the country grew education was becoming more common and more and more schools were being built. The graduation rate from high school was increasing and the amount of students moving on to college was increasing. The U.S. was rapidly industrializing and the idea of credential societies was created “the use of diplomas and degrees to determine who is eligible for jobs, even though the diploma or degree may be irrelevant to the actual work,” (Henslin 501). Education became the determining factor to who they would employ. If a citizen had an education and graduated through high school and even college they would have a greater outcome to getting a job with benefits. These benefits could potentially help them and their families have a long and happy life. Living a long happy life can be easier with an education because an individual in the upper middle class can very easily afford to shop for healthy food. Someone with an education would also be able to afford resources to exercise like a gym. On the other hand, an individual in the working class might not be able to afford the $10.00 salad for lunch compared to the $2.00 cheeseburger.
