The House on Mango Street by Sandra Cisneros is about a girl named Esperanza. Esperanza is in one of those families that are always moving around. She first lived in Paulina, then Keeler, and then after that Loomis, but now she lives on Mango Street. Esperanza is a very helpful girl because she likes to help her friends and family. Esperanza also helps out her neighbors. The major part of Esperanza’s identity is how helpful she is.
One of the main reasons Esperanza is so helpful is because she doesn't have very much. She comes from a “big family” which means they most likely have a small budget. Also meaning Esperanza can't always get what she wants. When Esperanza does get things she appreciates them. She also takes care of them because she wants them to last for as long as possible. Esperanza likes to help out her friends the most. In the end she doesn't have what she wants, but she has what she was suppose to get.
