Society and Jonas vs. Himself. Jonas receives conflicts between the society because no one in the community has any memories and from the release of the twins. Jonas has conflicts with himself because of leaving the community, from all the different memories he received from The Giver, and not letting everyone is the community have memories. For example, “ But why can’t everybody have memories? I think it would seem a little easier if the memories were shared. You and I wouldn’t have to bear so much by ourselves, if everybody took part “(146). The Giver and Jonas have always had troubles with holding memories and with receiving them. All the different thing that Jonas never knew about and not letting the community know about the different thing. For example, “The life where nothing was ever unexpected. Or inconvenient. Or unusual . The life without colour, pain, or past “(207) . Everything in the community was never different everyday everyone did the same thing. Everyone lived the same and never expected anything else they always lived the same for years. In The Giver, the theme becomes visible that sameness does not always work. At the end of the book Jonas, The Giver, and the community figure out that sameness is not all good. They have never had weather. For example: sunlight, winter, and sunburns. The community has never known what releasing was. Which was getting a needle stabbed into you and you got killed. You only got released if you are a twin, if you broke 3rules you're an elder, or if you're a baby not developing. Last of all the community has never felt feelings. Once the community went to sameness everyone lived the same and that gives them no feelings. Well, since Jonas was selected as The Receiver of Memory he got the most honored position in the community, but it requires Intelligence, Integrity, Courage, Wisdom, and Capacity to see beyond. In the book some of the characters are Lilly - Jonas’s sister, Asher, and Gabriel.
