The Feast of the Gods is an oil painting. During the time of the creation of this painting pigments available to artist were pigments such as ultramarine, lead-tin-yellow, malachite, verdigris and vermilion. Ultramarine is a deep blue pigment which was originally made by grinding lapis lazuli(deep blue stone) into a powder. Lead-tin-yellow is a yellow pigment also known as "Yellow of Old Masters". Malachite is a copper carbonate hydroxide mineral. Verdigris is a green pigment made through a process which that occurs when copper, brass, or bronze, is exposed to air over a period of time.Vermilion is a red pigment made from a powdered mineral called cinnabar. A couple examples of these materials used in the painting are the sky, clouds, and the trees. In the painting materials used to create the sky were Ultramarine and Lead white. Lotis is the daughter of Neptune. In the painting there is a group of people at a Festival in honor of Liber and in the painting it can be seen that Priapus who is a protector of livestock is attempting to rape Lotis while she is sleep. The story states that after Lotis woke up from the cries of Silenus, she ran off and left Priapus in embarrassment as everyone woke up and became aware of his intentions.
