Due to customs, safety, and morals the topic of which firearm should be used for hunting has been discussed between hunters for many decades.
Some of the main arguments have to do with being humane, not randomly shooting, and accidents. If the hunter wounds an animal, they can put the animal out of its misery more quickly. Hunters using a semi-automatic won't “spray and pray” - firing blindly without making an effort to aim correctly and hit their target. Manually operated firearms have been in more hunting accidents than semi-automatic firearms. A manually operated firearm is a firearm that needs the user to manually actuate a lever, handle or latch to load the next round into the chamber.

It is often thought that, sportsmen who hunt with semi-automatic firearms will "spray and pray" like in the movies. Guns America claims, "Faster fire encourages hunters to place unethical shots to take game… A hunter would be willing to use multiple shots to kill an animal, not a single, ethical kill shot"(Guns America News and Reviews 2). Hunting is no longer a sport when it is a person armed with a semi-automatic firearm verses a deer armed with eyesight and a great sense of smell, it is extraordinarily unfair (David Hunter 6). Hunters will continuously wound the animal when using a semiautomatic firearm.
People will have so much excitement for finally getting a shot at a deer that they won’t think to aim and just shoot. Hunting with semi-automatics are extremely unethical. While this position may be popular, it is not supported by the fact that hunters don't want to taint the meat that will be used to feed their family.

Hunters hunt to try to get food for their family so tainting the meat would ruin that purpose. When uneducated opponents think of semi-automatics, it is wrongly assumed hunters would be allowed to go into the woods with a thirty-round capacity magazine and rain hell on a deer, this is not true. Most states when hunting game animals only allow the hunter to only have three to five rounds in the magazine of any firearm. Also hunters in most states have to take a hunting safety
