I would definitely focus on the child’s social, emotional, academic, and life skills need; through implementing these strategies in the classroom:
1) Creating a stable, caring, and consistent environment will help the student cope with their emotions, while receiving a sense of security and structure. The classroom will be their place to feel at ease, and established. Teachers can develop a daily schedule, along with a warming environment, to help the child gain a sense of stability, they are not getting anywhere else (Moore, 2013).
2) Build quality relationship with the student: It is important once the teacher identify the homeless child, to develop a relationship with the student, by being understanding, and listen to the students share their feelings. Teacher can express to the student that they care about them, and their future success. Building relationship will allow the student to increase their self-esteem, and encourage them to attend school with an “I will give it my best attitude”, while enhancing their social skills and developing positive peer relationships.
