The Greek God Hades was known as the rule of the underworld had a black face and often carried a two pronged trident to destroy things. Hades was often very unlikable and he decided individual's fate for the afterlife. The underworld played another function in our understanding of the Devil and the afterlife. Witches were given power for having faith and making deals with in the Devil in much of Europe. Witchcraft caused mass hysteria and created fear of the Devil. The Puritan Code made witchcraft a crime in Europe individuals guilty would often be sentence to time in jail or death. Hundreds of individuals were accused to be witches and even made false confessions during this time. The Salem Witch Trials strike fear into woman being accused to be doing ‘Devil’s Magic’. When the truth about most witchcraft is that it was mostly not real or as extreme as it was made out to be. Witches often times just offered blessing and cures from the elements of the nature.
